Хогманэй - Шотландский Новый год

В этом году в 9-х классах мы занимаемся по учебнику Ю.Е. Ваулиной. Весь материал распределён по модулям. Тема первого модуля: «Праздники». Учащиеся знакомятся с разными праздниками англоговорящих стран. Ребятам понравился праздник Нового года в Шотландии – «Хогманэй». В представленном тексте – очень богатая лексика, упражнения учебника и рабочей тетради способствуют запоминанию основных фактов текста. После выполнения упражнений урока учащиеся смогли хорошо пересказать текст об этом празднике. В конспекте представлен кроссворд, лексические упражнения, слайды презентации, отражающие основные факты празднования Нового года в Шотландии. В конце урока проводится игра: «Корреспонденты».
Цель: формирование представления учащихся о шотландском Новом годе;
Задачи:
продолжать учить учащихся работать по тексту, выполнять заданные лексические упражнения;
уметь отвечать на вопросы по тексту, соблюдая время описываемых событий;
воспитывать уважение к традициям Шотландии;
Ход урока:
1. Вступительное слово учителя о праздниках:
My dear students! Each country has its own customs and traditions. Look at the map, please.
You know, that Great Britain consists of four parts: England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

There are many national holidays in each country. They have their own peculiarities and characteristics. Scotland, part of Great Britain is a country, where holidays have their own features, especially the New Year. The New Year in Scotland is called – Hogmanay.
So, what will our lesson be devoted to?

2. Your homework was to read the text about Hogmanay. So, we are going to work on this text.
In Scotland, the New Year’s Eve celebration is called Hogmanay which means “new morning” in Celtic. It is surely the most exciting celebration of the year.

Holiday salute
Preparations for the celebrations start early on the 31st December. People clean their houses and throw out old unwanted things. They also bake special shortbread biscuits and a rich fruit cake called “Black Bun”, to share with family and friends on the big day.

On the night of Hogmanay there are live concerts and fabulous carnivals in the streets of all Scottish towns. A lot of excited people get dressed up in colorful costumes. In some cities there is also a long torchlight procession through the streets that crowds watch excitedly. As soon as the bells chime twelve, everyone kisses and heartly wishes each other a Happy New Year. Then people join hands and proudly sing the traditional song “Auld Lang Syne”. After that, there is a stunning fireworks display which is the icing on the cake. On 1st January people visit friends and neighbours to wish them luck for the New Year.
Hogmanay is certainly a great celebration. People feel happy to be with friends and look forward to a good year full of success.
